This can take the form of a brown sugar scrub, or a glycolic or alpha hydroxy acid face wash. But I seriously caution people with sensitive skin, not to overuse; these mild peels may cause redness. Step 4: Toning I never use toner before, and even now, I don’t use this step every day unless I think my skin needs it. Toners were develope because many facial cleansers are alkaline and raise the pH of the skin. A toner helps restore skin’s natural pH, removes signs of oil, and helps tighten pores. Most cleaners these days don’t change the pH of the skin anymore, but I use a toner as an extra step to remove any makeup, dirt, or other impurities left on the skin after cleansing.
Many Toners Are Now Mixed With Extra
Many toners are now mixe with extra ingredients to help hydrate and soften the skin. Step 5: Repair I adde this step because, as a Brilliance SF Skincare dermatologist, I am a big believer in the power of targete repairs to your skin concerns! This is where you use topicals, whether it’s a formula for acne or rosacea, or a powerhouse ingredient like vitamin C. I like to use my treatment before my moisturizer so that the formula is very close to the skin. Steps 6-8: Intensive Hydration Here’s an example of a field that I simplify for you by combining multiple steps. To me, serums, essences, and ampoules are all variations on the same concept, intensive hydration.
It Depends On Your Skin Type
These products differ in texture and viscosity. Serums are extremely light, ultra-concentrated products (think more like toners in the Beauty American product spectrum), while ampoules are extremely thick, extremely concentrated products. The essence is somewhere in the middle. The function of these three products is to provide an extra step of hydration after toner and lotion and before moisturizer. Do you need these three things? It depends on your skin type. If you’re extremely dry and need extra hydration, you can try some of these products. If you already have oily skin, then you can choose one that has an ultra-low concentration, such as essence, and then go to the next step.
